Science

The Science Department at McCulloch Intermediate School and Highland Park Middle School inspires students to explore, question, and discover the world around them through hands-on investigations and inquiry-based learning. Grounded in the TEKS and HPISD Standards, the science curriculum develops critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills while fostering curiosity about the natural world.

In grades 5 and 6, students build a strong foundation in life, Earth, and physical sciences through the study of ecosystems, weather, energy, matter, forces, and Earth's interconnected systems. Through laboratory experiences, data analysis, and scientific inquiry, students learn to make observations, ask questions, and apply scientific concepts to real-world situations.

In grades 7 and 8, students engage in more advanced scientific exploration as they study chemistry, physics, Earth and space science, and biology concepts. Coursework includes topics such as matter and energy, force and motion, the solar system, ecosystems, genetics, atoms, chemical reactions, and Earth's changing systems. Through investigation, experimentation, and collaboration, students develop the scientific knowledge and skills needed for future success in high school science courses and beyond.
