Social Studies

The Social Studies Department at McCulloch Intermediate School and Highland Park Middle School encourages students to explore the people, events, cultures, and ideas that have shaped our world. Grounded in the TEKS and HPISD Standards, students develop critical thinking, research, and analytical skills while gaining a deeper understanding of history, geography, government, economics, and citizenship.

In grades 5 and 6, students study United States History and World Cultures, examining the people, events, and civilizations that have influenced societies throughout history. Through the use of primary and secondary sources, maps, research, and collaborative discussions, students develop an understanding of historical events and their impact on the modern world.

In grades 7 and 8, students explore Texas History and United States History, focusing on the political, economic, and social developments that shaped Texas and the nation. Students strengthen their historical thinking skills by evaluating evidence, analyzing multiple perspectives, discussing ideas, and drawing conclusions based on historical research and inquiry.
