I began my journey in the field of Zoology as a Large Mammal Zookeeper and Sea Lion Trainer. I completed my Bachelor's Degree in Biology from the University of Oklahoma and my Master's Degree in Wildlife Biology from Arkansas State University. I've had a passion for all things living...especially the animal variety since I was a child.
While in Graduate School, I studied humpback and pilot whales in St. Vincent and the Grenadines (in the lesser Antilles of the Caribbean). There I spent time counting whale populations, SCUBA diving, and observing natural behavior.
This is my 4th year teaching 7th Grade Science and my 1st year at Highland Park Middle School.
In addition to teaching 7th Grade Science, I also sponsor a Zoology Club for 7th and 8th graders where students learn animal husbandry and help care for the amazing animal friends in our classroom. They will also get additional education about all things zoology and animal training.
My teaching philosophy is short, sweet, and aligns perfectly with Dr. James Comer:
"No significant learning occurs without a significant relationship."
Every student is different and I strive to know and teach them as the individuals they are.
I'm so excited to be at Highland Park Middle School and can't wait to get to know your students and share my knowledge and experiences with them!
The 2021/2022 school year will be an amazing one!!
