DRAMA 8 (FA1DR8) This course offers students a deeper development of acting techniques, technical theater execution, play-writing, and directing. Students will perform a series of short scenes, monologues, and a technical theater design project for the first nine weeks. The second nine weeks, students will write 10-minute plays that will be student-directed and performed at the end of the semester for parents. All are welcome to sign up for 8th grade Drama! Prior experience is not necessary and there are no auditions.


Full Year Courses
 

DRAMA HONORS (SPOTLIGHT)(FA1DRH) This is an acting class. The course will focus on all aspects of producing plays. Students will develop their acting and technical theater skills, producing multiple plays. There will be two outside of class performances, a play for the district 3rd graders and an evening performance second semester. This course requires a degree of commitment beyond most elective classes. Attendance at all practices and performances is mandatory. The performance standard is high, and active daily participation is expected. Sign Up D105 for Auditions by February 14th.

MUSICAL THEATER  (PLAYBILL) (FA1DRM) This is a singing, dancing, and acting class! Throughout the year we will focus on all aspects of musical theater. Students will learn to express themselves through music, dance, and drama. There will be two performances, a Broadway Showcase, and a Spring Musical. This class requires a degree of commitment beyond most elective classes. attendance at all practices and performances is mandatory. The performance standard is high, and active daily participation is expected. Sign up D105 for Auditions by February 14th.


The Theatre Lab
 
This course is designed as a laboratory class to introduce students to the theatre. A variety of performance activities include pantomime, readers theatre, scriptwriting, acting, and improvisation. The play The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe is the springboard for projects including costume design, stage makeup, acting, and publicity.
 

Act Out
 
This course is for students wishing to improve their acting and technical theatre skills. We will use the play The Phantom of the Opera for students to create costumes, technical designs and compare stage performance to film acting. Other projects include improvisation, acting and auditioning for stage and film.
 

Think Tank
 
Challenge your creativity and imagination! Problem-solve your way through building a wind-powered vehicle, creating skits, chain reaction machines, making plaster bandage masks and more. This course will encourage the development of creative problem-solving skills through a variety of interdisciplinary projects. Based on the premise that all individuals possess creativity, students will have the opportunity to take intelligent risks in a safe environment.
