Personal Communication Device Policy
In accordance with House Bill 1481, HPISD prohibits students in grades K–12 from using personal communication devices during the school day. This includes cell phones, smartwatches, tablets, gaming devices, earbuds and other personal electronic devices. Only district-issued laptops or iPads may be used during the instructional day.
Students in grades 5–12 who bring a cell phone to school must turn it off and secure it in a Yondr pouch for the entire school day. Students will keep their pouch with them, but it must remain locked until dismissal. Any device that is seen, heard or felt vibrating may be confiscated, and appropriate consequences will be assigned.
Students may not use phones or smartwatches to contact parents during the school day. Students who need assistance should visit the nurse, counseling office or campus office. Parents who need to contact their child or drop off an item should contact the campus front office.
Cell phone use for medical purposes is permitted only when included in a student’s 504 or health plan. Bluetooth earbuds, AirPods and headphones are not permitted in the building during the school day. Corded headphones may be used with district-issued Chromebooks when authorized by a teacher.

• Device stored in the assistant principal’s office for the day; parent/guardian notified. • Up to 3 days of In School Suspension (ISS). • Device returned to parent/guardian at the end of the day. • Offense recorded in Skyward. |
