From Principal Powell

Welcome to Highland Park Middle School!

The middle school years are an important and formative time in a student’s journey, and HPMS is a place where students are known, challenged, and supported as they grow academically, socially, and emotionally. We build on the strong foundation established in intermediate school as students continue to find their voice, take on new levels of responsibility, and grow in independence. Through strong academics, fine arts, athletics, leadership opportunities, and service, students are encouraged to try new things, work hard, and discover who they are becoming.

As Scots, we are guided by the values of character, courage, service, and community. These are not just words for us. They are reflected in how we treat one another, how we learn together, and how we support one another each day. We believe leadership is learned through service, and our tradition of “Enter to Learn, Go Forth to Serve” reflects our commitment to preparing students not only for achievement, but to contribute, care for others, and lead in ways that make a difference.

One of the greatest strengths of Highland Park Middle School is the partnership between students, staff, and families. We value that partnership deeply and work closely with families to support each child’s growth and success.

Our goal is simple and steady: we want every student to be prepared for success in high school and beyond, and to develop the confidence, character, and habits that will serve them for life. We are proud of our school, proud of our students, and grateful for the opportunity to serve this community.

It is a privilege to serve as principal of Highland Park Middle School, and I look forward to a great year ahead for our HPMS Scots.
