7th & 8th Grade Basketball Tryout Information




The following paperwork will be required of any athlete to participate on the basketball team.  All forms (except #3) may be completed online at A link can be found on HPISD website under the athletics section and forms.

  1. U.I.L. Physical Form signed and dated by a physician.  The form must be dated on or after May 14, 2016.
  2. U.I.L. Acknowledgement of Rules (completed online)
  3. Team Rules (signed and returned to coaches)
  4. Emergency Medical Card (completed online)
  5. Concussion Acknowledgment Form (completed online)
  6. Cardiac Arrest Awareness Form (completed online)


Basketball practices will begin

October 21st. (UIL official start date)

7th grade 6:15 - 8:00

8th grade 2:35 - 5:00


Monday, November 7th - 10th

7th grade Tryouts:  6:15a.m. – 8:30 a.m.

8th grade Tryouts:  2:30p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

***Tryout criteria consists of shooting, lay-ups, dribbling, passing, court awareness, 1 on 1, 3 on 2, 3 on 3, 5 on 5, competitive play, hustle, and attitude.


The basketball team will be made up of 3 teams (Red, Gold, White).  The team will be posted after 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 10th.  The posting will be by number on the coaches’ websites.


7th grade basketball games are primarily on Monday/Tuesday (some other dates based on district schedules) and the 8th grade games are on Thursday.  The first game will begin at 5:00 p.m.  The following game will begin 15 minutes after the previous game.  Play schedule is Gold, White, and Red.  Each team will play in one District tournament and the White team will also participate in a Non-District Tournament.  


Each athlete must attend ALL TRYOUTS, PRACTICES, GAMES, and TOURNAMENTS.  HPMS athletic sports MUST take precedence over outside activities such as club sports (i.e. soccer, lacrosse, etc.), cheerleading, dance, etc.

**District schedules were made in late spring of 2016 and therefore are subject to have minor changes.  Athletes are required to attend ALL games even if they are changed due to district conflicts.
