Monday- Turn Mandalas and tables in for grading. You will be given construction paper in class. You will have time in class to finalize your Mythology papers that are due at the beginning of class on Tuesday, 2-2.

 Note the characterization on p. 161 & 168 Can you picture these characters?

 Find at least 6 similes and 6 vocabulary words that you were unfamiliar with and define those in your WNB.

Thursday- Reflection on Mythology paper and project. Read Narcissus & Echo (pages 84-90) in class. Read Eros & Psyche (pages 91-101) for homework.

Friday- Review Eros & Psyche, Read Arion (pages 102-105) in class and The Hunter's Moon.

Week of January 26, 2015

Monday- Outline for Mythology paper handed out in class. I changed the requirements a little-reducing the requirement from 5 to 4 paragraphs. :) See MOODLE for outline.

Students also received a Rubric for the Greek Mythology Presentation. Each student will dress and his or her mythological character next week and give a 2-3 minute talk. Guidelines are in the RUBRIC. See Moodle for another copy.

Students found out if they are presenting next Tuesday or Wednesday for the Greek Ceremony. Food and drink sign-up sheets will be available tomorrow.

We discussed Chapters 5-11 in the Hunter's Moon. Next reading is due on Friday, Jan. 30th.(Chapters 12-17, pages 102-153) Reading requirements were given and are on Moodle in The Hunter's Moon folder. See MOODLE for similes, vocabulary, allusion, and conflict notes that are required for chapters 12-17.

Tuesday- Worked on first draft of mythology paper. First draft is due tomorrow. Make sure you have shared your Google doc with me and bring a PRINTED copy of your paper to class. OUTLINE for paper, requirements, and grading RUBRIC are on MOODLE.

Wednesday- Peer revision using Google docs Share feature with first drafts of Mythology papers.

Thursday- Peer editing using Google docs Share feature with second drafts of Mythology papers. Final papers are due on Tuesday, Feb. 3rd.- Major Grade.

EDITING PAGE IS ON MOODLE.

Friday- Discuss chapters 12-17 in The Hunter's Moon.

Work time for mythology paper and/or Mandala.  Mandala is due on Monday, Feb. 2nd. Quiz grade. All Mandala instructions and circle paper are on MOODLE.

Reviewed first part of the The Hunter's Moon- gave reading assignment- Read through page 101 (Chapters 5-11) by Monday, Jan. 26th. SEE HOMEWORK SECTION FOR ALL HW ASSIGNMENTS.

Note: similes, at least 6 vocabulary words that

you are unfamiliar with and provide the definition AND

note a passage that provides vivid imagery to you.

Find the following and note in your book:

*the allusion to Greek mythology on p. 82

*a connection to a Greek myth on p.85

*an allusion/simile on page 89

*one allusion on page 101.

Thursday- Mythology Test over the information on The Major Deities Table, all Greek & Latin roots, suffixes, & Prefixes on your list, AND The Creation Myth that you were given in class. ALL OF THESE ARE ON MOODLE.

Friday- Mandala instructions given- On Moodle.

Week of January 12, 2015

Monday- Unit 5 Vocabulary Quiz

Greek & Latin Roots listing handed out. Please provide three words that contain the root for the first 6 roots on the first page my tomorrow. Bio poems are BIO poems for Zeus, Hera, Athene, Poseidon, Hades, and Demeter are due tomorrow. Write these in your Writer's Notebook. (pages 3-29 in the Hero's mythology book)

Tuesday- Students shared bio poems that were due today. A preposition quiz review was given today. It is also on Moodle in the Preposition folder.

Due Thursday, Jan. 15th- BIO poems for Artemis, Apollo, Hermes, Hephaestus, Dionysus, and Ares. Write these in your WNB.

ALSO DUE on Thursday on the Greek & Latin Roots page: mania- path & pel-sist. (NEXT TWO PAGES) We will go over the preposition quiz review on Thursday.

Wednesday- Greek Gods & Hero Project & Ceremony overview and requirements given in class. The Lottery for the selection for the mythological character for the Greek Gods & Hero project & ceremony will be held tomorrow. Names will be drawn in each class for students to select a mythological character. Each student will need to have 6-7 names on his/her list. There will be no duplicate characters.

All students need to purchase Heroes, Gods, and Monsters of The Greek Myths by Bernard Evslin for $7 in the Raider Supply Shop by his/her LA class period this Friday.
