HPMS students win grant funds for community service project

Eighth-graders Ashvita Saxena and Abby O'Rourke were selected as winners of a $500 grant from the Lead2Feed Student Leadership Program Challenge. HPMS speech teacher Kay Keeland introduced the program in her classes to teach 21st-century leadership skills and challenged her students to take an active leadership role in the community.

As their project, Ashvita and Abby held a fundraiser for The United Nations Foundation's Girl Up program at Grub Burger Bar and donated the proceeds to help empower young women in poverty-stricken countries to become leaders.  The grant money from Lead2Feed will also benefit their chosen cause.
