The 8 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3 HPISD Trustee Team-Building Work Session will be held as scheduled. No action concerning district matters will be taken during the work session. The team-building meeting is a training session that fulfills a state requirement for school board training.

Dear HPISD families and staff:
 
Out of an abundance of caution, Highland Park ISD will close schools and offices today, Friday, Feb. 3. Morning conditions and travel forecasts this morning guided our decision. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Two-hour delayed start Friday, Feb. 3
 
Highland Park ISD will be open tomorrow, Friday, Feb. 3.
 
Start times for schools and offices will be delayed by two hours. Staff and students should report two hours later than their regularly scheduled start time. Lunch will be provided but menu options may be limited. Breakfast, which is usually offered for grades 5-12, will not be available. 
 
After-school activities, athletics and events will resume.
 
Decisions about making up missed instructional time have not been made but will be made in the coming weeks.
 
Buildings are warm and ready to welcome students and staff in the morning.
 
We will continue to monitor conditions and, if reports change, any announcement regarding closing school would be communicated by 6 a.m. Friday through the following:

District campuses and offices will remain closed Thursday, Feb. 2 due to continued hazardous driving conditions. The district continues to monitor conditions and forecasts for Friday travel. At this time, decisions about missed instructional time have not been made. 
 
All after-school extracurricular practices, games, events and activities, including classes offered through Academy for Lifelong Learning, have been canceled or postponed.

The National Weather Service is forecasting wintery weather across much of North Texas later this afternoon and into the evening.
 
HPISD will follow a normal release schedule this afternoon (Monday, Jan. 30) and will continue to closely monitor weather reports and travel conditions on area roads throughout the day today and into the evening.
 
All afterschool activities, extended day school, and athletic events for today (Monday, Jan. 30) have been canceled.
 
A decision on whether to close, delay the start, or follow a normal schedule tomorrow will be made before 6 a.m. Tuesday morning.
 
As always, our top priority is to keep our students and staff safe, including when they travel to and from school. In the event of inclement weather, the decision on whether to close or delay the opening of schools is announced through the following outlets:
