Technology Advancement

Dear Parents,

As you know, this year our HPISD technology department set up Google Apps for Education (GAFE) for teachers and students. This new system, powered by Google, provides a suite of products, such as Google Drive, Docs, Slides, Sheets, and Sites, that enables us to better communicate, share, and collaborate around student products and learning.

Our teachers have also created Google calendars on each of their webpages. Go to your teacher's webpage to see each individual teacher's calendar, and go to the team page to see a combined team calendar. A student using Chrome browser and their hpisd login will be able to view homework assignments and upcoming dates for major projects and tests. Students can also subscribe to all their teachers' calendars, giving them an individualized calendar of assignments and due dates.

Additionally, all students in grades 5-8 have developed a google site with 4-6 writing pieces posted for the school year. We will continue to add writing pieces each year, so that during the 5th-8th grade years, your student will have approximately 16 writing pieces captured on the site. This will enable you and your student to view their writing progress over a four year span.

To view more information about these technology tools, as well as "Frequently Asked Questions", go to the "Students" link on our webpage and click on "Technology FAQ".

We are excited about these technology tools that are enabling our students to work more collaboratively with their teachers and peers, as well as enhancing their productivity, organizational skills, and preparedness for the future.

If you have any questions regarding these tools, please submit them to one of our Campus Instructional Technologists, Laura Reinhart (MIS), or Mindy Woods (HPMS), and we will add them to the Technology FAQ.

As always, thank you for your ongoing and exceptional support and partnership in your child's education.
