Course Descriptions
STRINGS (ORCHESTRA) (FA1ORC) Offering students the opportunity to perform at a more advanced degree of musical artistry. Open to students who have previously participated in a school orchestra program or who can demonstrate competence on their instruments. Fundamental music habits continue to be a primary focus, but more class time becomes devoted to preparing the music for public performance. Activities include several concerts, solo and ensemble festivals, two contests and field trips. In addition, students have the opportunity to audition for outside activities, such as the All-Region Orchestra, and to participate in enrichment activities such as chamber ensembles.
Intermediate and Advanced Orchestra
Students are offered the opportunity to perform at a more advanced degree of musical artistry. These orchestras are restricted to students who have previously participated in a school orchestra program and/or who can demonstrate competence on their instruments. Fundamental music habits continue to be a primary focus, but at this level, more class time becomes devoted to preparing the music for public performance. Activities involving these orchestras include several concerts, solo and ensemble festival, two contests, and field trips. In addition, students have the opportunity to audition for outside activities, such as the All-Region Honor Orchestra, and to participate in various enrichment activities such as chamber ensembles.
