MIS Physical Education
The MIS Physical Education curriculum is designed to progressively build upon the fundamental movements learned in earlier grades.
Physical development includes:
*Skill refinement: Students practice and apply more complex motor skills, including those for team sports, dual sports, individual sports, and rhythmic activities like dance.
*Physical fitness: Students learn to monitor components of health-related fitness (such as cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, and flexibility) and set individual goals for improvement.
*Injury prevention: Instruction includes proper techniques for jumping, landing, and using equipment to prevent injury.
Cognitive development includes:
Beyond physical movement, PE involves critical thinking and strategic knowledge.
Strategic thinking: Students learn and apply movement concepts, principles, and strategies for both offense and defense in game situations.
Understanding health: Students learn how proper hydration, nutrition, and exercise contribute to a healthy lifestyle.
Lifelong fitness: The goal is to provide students with the knowledge and confidence to remain physically active throughout their lives.
Social and emotional development: PE provides a natural setting for learning social skills.
- Teamwork and cooperation: Through group activities and team sports, students learn to cooperate, communicate effectively, and problem-solve together toward a common goal.
- Sportsmanship: The curriculum teaches the importance of fair play, respecting others' abilities and limitations, and handling both winning and losing with grace.
- Self-management: Students learn self-control of impulses and emotions during competitive and dynamic activities.
