Eighth Grade Science
Eighth-grade science is a laboratory-oriented course which integrates earth science, physics, chemistry, technology, and other core subjects, such as math and language arts. Emphasis is placed on fluency in applying problem-solving and critical thinking skills to laboratory experiences as well as application to the real world.
Eighth-grade science is designed to challenge students to:
- Expand on prior knowledge;
- Formulate original hypotheses and conclusions;
- Improve decision-making skills;
- Expand their view of science and how it applies to other disciplines; and
- Become independent thinkers.
The eighth-grade science course is based primarily on earth science. Merrill Earth Science, published by Glencoe is the basic textbook used. Supplementary materials include the Science and Technology Videodisc Series and other related CD-ROM and laserdisc programs.
