MIS sixth-graders participated in the annual water walk Oct. 21. Students walked the perimeter of McCulloch carrying gallon jugs of water. The activity simulates the experience of being a child in what’s known as a Least Developed Country (LDC), having to fetch water from a distant water source and carry it home to their family.
MIS sixth-grader Saylor Stalk reflected on this year's water walk, “My biggest takeaway was to be thankful for what we have. Something as simple as having easy access to water allows us to focus on school. This experience makes me want to help other people out who are struggling in the world.”
The event is part of a week of cross-curricular activities that include water-related lessons in math, science and art. Sealed water jugs collected throughout the day were donated to the North Texas Food Bank.
