Asthma
Asthma is the leading chronic illness among children and adolescents in the United States. Our goal at Highland Park ISD is to keep your student safe while at school. The HPISD Asthma Action Plan is in accordance with Texas Education Code 38.015. This bill allows a student to self-administer asthma medication(s) with the prescription label attached while at school and/or school functions with permission from parents and physicians. Please have your child's physician complete the required Asthma Action Plan and return to your school nurse with your student's medication annually.
We do keep a small supply of asthma medication(s) in our clinics for emergency use only, to provide quick relief of asthma symptoms.
If a student carries their inhaler, parents are encouraged to bring back-up medication to the clinic, in case the student loses their inhaler or forgets it at home.
